RICK CARTER, MFT, MBA
PSYCHOTHERAPIST
Hi. I’m Rick Carter, a Marriage and Family Therapist (psychotherapist/counselor) in private practice in West Hollywood, conveniently located on the corner of Santa Monica Blvd. and Harper (two blocks west of Crescent Heights). Although I self identify as a gay man and work primarily with the gay male population as my “niche” and specialty, I absolutely enjoy and welcome individuals and couples of any sexual orientation and background who are devoted and willing to delve into self exploration at this point in their lives.
I love this profession! I am passionate and thrilled with the opportunities I encounter most every day to help people get “unstuck” in their lives. I enjoy the challenge of working with people to discover and uncover their personal blocks that prevent them from living a more authentic, purposeful and meaningful life. I would describe my therapeutic philosophy as modern, challenging, interactive and solution-focused, tailored to your individual needs as the client. I mostly work with cognitive/behavioral techniques along with existential exploration of personal meaning and individual truth. Most importantly, I vehemently believe that we must take personal responsibility for our own lives, investigate our own thoughts, ideas, “truths”, beliefs and attitudes to live an authentic and rich life. I work with people and challenge them to think for themselves so that they can significantly improve self confidence, self esteem and personal empowerment. As a result of this process, most have experienced a renewed sense of hope, an elevation in mood and a decrease in anxiety, worry and stress.
- Do you feel like you are stuck in a rut and it seems “impossible” to find the motivation and means to get out of this slump?
- Have you lost interest in activities that used to bring you pleasure?
- Are you “outgrowing” your friends and relationships?
- Are you lacking direction and a sense of purpose?
- Are you escaping into addictions such as alcohol, drugs, sex and/or online activities that leave you feeling guilty, “out of control”, hopeless and empty?
- Do you often feel worried, anxious and “stressed out” throughout the day?
- Are you feeling lost, confused and simply exhausted by the mundane routine of every day life?
- Are you trying to figure out who you are and what your life means?
- Do you often feel trapped and that something is “missing” from your life?
If you can relate and identify with most of the these questions, I would be happy to meet with you for a NO-CHARGE 30 minute consultation to determine if you could benefit from psychotherapy and/or personal coaching.
